The Number Row

1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 0

The number row is the longest reach on the keyboard, and it is where most otherwise-fast typists slow down and glance at their hands. Training it pays off any time you type dates, prices, or data.

Finger assignments

Numbers follow the same columns as the letters below them: the A-finger takes 1, the S-finger 2, the D-finger 3, the F-finger 4 and 5, and mirror that on the right hand for 6 through 0.

It is a long stretch up, so accept that the number row is slower than the letters — the goal is not looking down, not raw speed.

Tip: Anchor on the home row and reach up by column — don’t hunt.
